The historical processions revive the times of Emperor Maximilian I. in Füssen. Emperor Maximilian I., called the last knight, was German king since 1486 and emperor of the Holy Roman Empire since 1508. At times he had moved his seat of government to Füssen in Allgäu and visited the city regularly, up to 40 times in total. Trade and prosperity flourished in Füssen as a result of the emperor’s visits. Nobles from the Roman Empire, secular and spiritual princes, knights, councillors, guild masters and other personalities came to Füssen to offer their honour to the great emperor.
During his visits to the city, the emperor often organized great celebrations, to which he invited high spiritual personalities and nobles. Bishop Cordier from France, Bishop Friedrich II of Augsburg, Duke Wilhelm of Bavaria and other great personalities of the time were in Füssen at the invitation of Maximilian I.
